A Southeast-based group, AlaIgbo Political Watchdog (APW), has announced plans to promote a new phase of political renewal in the region by supporting only credible candidates in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Prince Ben Ahanonu, the group said it is committed to advancing effective and responsible leadership across Igboland.
Ahanonu explained that APW has created a platform to engage with political aspirants from all parties as part of its strategy to identify and support the most qualified individuals.
“It is our conviction that AlaIgbo predates modern political parties. Consequently, no political entity can significantly advance the region’s development unless leadership is rooted in credibility and selflessness,” the statement read.
The group emphasised that its support would go to candidates who demonstrate genuine commitment to transparent governance and public service, rather than personal gain.
APW also stressed the importance of track record, noting that only individuals with proven dedication to service and accessibility to the people would be considered.
Referencing the legacy of late Sam Mbakwe, the group said it would prioritise candidates who embody sacrifice and a strong sense of duty.
“We will support candidates who reward excellence and hard work, not mediocrity or self-serving interests,” the statement added.
The group further announced that it has opened its platform to interested aspirants, inviting them to present their vision and development plans.
Following a thorough internal assessment, APW said it would endorse and promote the most suitable candidates to voters ahead of the 2027 elections.
