The National Publicity Secretary of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, Ukpabi Micheal Authority, has stated that only leaders with verifiable achievements should be considered for re-election in the 2027 general elections.
Ukpabi stressed that the era of automatic tickets, political recycling, and entitlement in Nigeria’s political space must come to an end. According to him, Nigerian youths are now more politically conscious and determined to influence outcomes at the polls.
He warned that underperforming office holders would no longer enjoy easy returns to power, insisting that only those who have demonstrated accountability and delivered tangible results to their constituents deserve another mandate.
The OYC spokesman further cautioned political parties against prioritising loyalty, financial influence, or backdoor arrangements in candidate selection, describing such practices as unacceptable to the youth population.
He noted that the council is mobilising to ensure that candidates without credible performance records are rejected at the ballot box, adding that performance should now be the minimum standard for public office.
Ukpabi also urged aspirants to subject themselves to public scrutiny, encouraging citizens to assess leaders based on their impact in key areas such as infrastructure, education, job creation, and human capital development.
Reaffirming the council’s stance, he said the group remains committed to promoting a political culture built on transparency, accountability, and measurable results, stressing that voters will play a decisive role in shaping leadership outcomes in 2027.
