A group of political stakeholders in Abia State has purchased the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship expression of interest and nomination forms for the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, in a fresh move aimed at persuading him to contest the 2027 governorship election.

The stakeholders formally presented the forms to Kalu in Abuja on Saturday, describing the gesture as a demonstration of confidence in his leadership abilities and contributions to national development through the legislature.

Leader of the delegation, James Uko-Kalu (SAN), said the Deputy Speaker had distinguished himself through quality representation and legislative achievements since assuming office.

He described Kalu as a unifying figure capable of repositioning Abia State through purposeful leadership and effective governance.

“We are here because we recognise the immense contributions the Deputy Speaker has made to Nigeria’s legislative process, which have translated into meaningful development. Since 2019, we have closely followed his performance and can confidently say he has done exceptionally well,” he stated.

Responding, Kalu expressed appreciation to the stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him and acknowledged the growing calls for him to join the governorship race.

The Deputy Speaker, however, said he would first consult widely with political stakeholders, party leaders, and supporters before making a final decision.

“You believe that if I come on board, it is because I share in the vision of the Eight-Point Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu and his commitment to true federalism that enables subnational governments to drive development,” Kalu said.

He described the purchase of the forms as a strong appeal for him to step forward and offer leadership in the state.

“The purchase of this form is clearly a call for me to step forward. I have received it with gratitude, and within the next one or two days, after due consultations, I will make my position known,” he added.

Kalu further stressed the need for unity within the APC in Abia, noting that the party’s success in the state would depend on the commitment and cooperation of its members.

He also emphasised the need to reshape the political and developmental narrative of Abia State through collective efforts and focused leadership.
