Abia Moves to Digital Governance, Partners COREN to Strengthen Infrastructure Standards

The Abia State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to modern governance by adopting digital systems aimed at improving efficiency and public service delivery.

Governor Alex Otti made this known while receiving delegations from the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria during separate courtesy visits at his office.

Highlighting the state’s progress in digital transformation, the governor revealed that key government processes, including the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy, are now handled electronically. He noted that embracing technology is no longer optional, warning that institutions that fail to adapt risk becoming irrelevant.

Otti also commended the CCB for its ongoing efforts to digitise the asset declaration process, describing the move as consistent with international standards and the reform agenda of his administration.

He expressed optimism that the transition would soon allow public officials to complete and submit asset declaration forms remotely, without the need for physical documentation.

Emphasising accountability, the governor stated that asset declaration remains a constitutional obligation for all public office holders, adding that there should be no excuses for non-compliance. He disclosed that both he and his deputy have fulfilled this requirement.

Earlier, the Southeast Zonal Director of the CCB, Mr. Akinfolarin Feyishola, praised the governor for the visible strides recorded in Abia, noting that the administration’s achievements have continued to attract national attention.

Feyishola explained that the bureau has discontinued the issuance of physical asset declaration forms and is working towards a fully automated system. According to him, the transition to an online platform is expected to be completed within the third quarter of the year.

In addition to its digital governance drive, the state government is also collaborating with COREN to promote professionalism and ensure that infrastructure projects meet required standards, as part of efforts to achieve sustainable development across Abia.
