Paul Ikonne, a former Executive Secretary of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) and an All Progressives Congress (APC) leader, has demanded that Alex Otti issue an immediate apology for his outburst at a journalist during a recent media briefing.
According to a statement released by Ikonne’s spokesperson, Chiagoziem Enoch, Otti’s reaction, which targeted a reporter seeking accountability on his state reforms, was unacceptable.
The incident has sparked reactions across Nigeria, including condemnation from Rufai Oseni, who criticized the governor’s conduct.
Ikonne described the governor’s behavior as “dictatorial and unbecoming of his office,” stressing that a leader should respond to questions with facts rather than personal attacks.
“Governance is not about rhetoric; it is about measurable outcomes. It is deeply troubling that instead of answering legitimate questions, Otti resorted to personal attacks. No leader who values democratic accountability should insult a journalist or anyone for asking questions. Governor Otti must apologize immediately,” Ikonne stated.
The call highlights growing concerns over press freedom and accountability in the state, emphasizing that public officials should engage with media inquiries professionally.
