APC Alleges Plot to Undermine Party in Abia Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that the state government is plotting to destabilise the party by using some former aspirants to create internal divisions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party claimed that the Labour Party-led administration had earmarked ₦5 billion for the alleged operation, insisting that no amount of intimidation, infiltration, financial inducement, or political manipulation would weaken its structure.

In a statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, the APC said it had become aware of what it described as attempts by the state government to manufacture a crisis within the opposition party.

According to the statement, intelligence available to the party indicated that a prominent businessman, described as a former APC member and close associate of Governor Alex Otti, was allegedly used to channel funds to certain individuals at the party’s national headquarters.

The APC further alleged that part of the funds was made available to a leading aspirant within the party with the objective of creating confusion, deepening divisions, and undermining party unity.

The party also claimed that the Labour Party administration attempted to influence the outcome of the recently concluded APC primary elections by sponsoring aspirants for seats in the House of Representatives and the Abia State House of Assembly.

However, the APC maintained that its members remained vigilant and resisted what it described as efforts to manipulate the party’s internal processes.

The opposition party questioned what it called the apparent desperation of a government that frequently highlights its achievements and popularity among the people. It argued that if the administration was confident of public support, there would be no need to interfere in the affairs of opposition parties.

The APC further stated that Abians would demand accountability from the government in the 2027 elections, citing issues including spending on smart schools, recreational projects, ICT infrastructure, pensions, gratuities, and workers’ welfare.

According to the party, residents would use the ballot box to seek explanations on several government projects and financial commitments undertaken by the current administration.

The APC also expressed confidence in its political prospects, describing itself as the fastest-growing political movement in the state under the leadership of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu.

The party said it remains focused on expanding its presence across all parts of Abia and expressed optimism about winning key legislative seats, senatorial positions, and securing victory in future elections.

It concluded by assuring supporters that it would remain united and prepared for the political contests ahead.
