Nigeria has recorded a significant legal and financial victory in an international arbitration dispute involving European technology contractor European Dynamics UK Ltd, saving the country from a potential financial exposure of over $6.2 million (approximately ₦9.3 billion).
The dispute stemmed from a national e-Procurement project overseen by the Bureau of Public Procurement. The arbitration tribunal ultimately dismissed all claims brought against Nigeria by the contractor.
In a statement released in Akure on Monday, the National Coordinator of the Progressives Think Tank, Christiana Titus, praised President Bola Tinubu for what the group described as visionary leadership and steadfast support for institutions tasked with protecting Nigeria’s economic and legal interests globally.
According to the statement, the Federal Government’s firm backing of the arbitration proceedings demonstrated that Nigeria would not be pressured into making payments for services that failed to meet agreed contractual and technical standards.
The group described the outcome as a landmark achievement, noting that the dismissal of all claims against Nigeria underscores effective leadership, strong legal strategy, and a commitment to safeguarding public resources.
It further stated that the ruling sends a clear message internationally that Nigeria is prepared to assert its rights, defend its sovereignty, and protect public funds in global contractual disputes.
The group also commended Attorney-General Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) for his robust defence of Nigeria’s legal position, alongside the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Adebowale Adedokun, whom it praised for professionalism and adherence to due process.
According to the group, Adedokun’s insistence on contractual fairness and technical compliance set a new benchmark for public procurement governance, reflecting a strong commitment to national interest and accountability.
