‘It’s false’ – Dangote denies alleged rift with Tony Elumelu

The Dangote Group has denied reports circulating online alleging that its President, Aliko Dangote, is involved in a dispute with the Chairman of the United Bank for Africa, Tony Elumelu.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the company’s spokesperson, Anthony Chiejina, described the reports as false, malicious, and without any factual basis.

The statement specifically rejected a publication titled “Aliko Dangote Speaks Out on Why He Distanced Himself from Tony Elumelu,” insisting that neither Dangote nor the company ever made such remarks.

“The Dangote Group has become aware of a publication titled ‘Aliko Dangote Speaks Out on Why He Distanced Himself from Tony Elumelu,’ which is false, malicious, and baseless. At no time did the president or the Group make such statements or express such sentiments,” the statement read.

The company also denied claims suggesting that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals project was funded through personal loans obtained from friends.

According to the Group, the allegations amount to a deliberate distortion of facts and do not reflect the company’s financing structure.

“The Group categorically rejects claims that the development of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals was financed through personal borrowing from friends. These assertions are wholly inaccurate and constitute a deliberate misrepresentation of facts,” the statement added.

It stressed that Aliko Dangote does not fund his projects through personal borrowing arrangements with friends and challenged anyone making such allegations to provide verifiable proof.

The company further dismissed suggestions of any strained relationship between Dangote and Elumelu, noting that both business leaders continue to maintain a cordial and longstanding relationship.

“Equally false are suggestions of any estrangement between Aliko Dangote and Mr Tony Elumelu, with whom he maintains a longstanding and cordial relationship,” the statement said.

The Group also expressed concern over what it described as a growing trend of fabricated statements and the unauthorised use of Dangote’s image and identity in AI-generated advertisements and misleading online content.

It warned those responsible for creating or spreading such materials to stop immediately or risk legal consequences.

“All individuals, organisations, and platforms involved in the creation, publication, or dissemination of such false content are hereby put on notice to desist immediately,” the company warned.

The Dangote Group reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high standards of integrity while continuing its industrial and economic development efforts across Africa.
