IWD: Abia, Cross River Governors Celebrate Women

Governors Alex Otti of Abia State and Bassey Otu of Cross River State have paid glowing tributes to women as the world marks International Women’s Day (IWD).

International Women’s Day, observed every 8 March, celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women while reinforcing the global call for gender equality.

Otti: Women are special and spectacular

Governor Otti said women’s contributions continue to shape society and positively impact humanity.

“We consider women as special and spectacular in Abia, hence our government provides a pride of place for them, while ensuring that their energies and talents are harnessed and put to good use for the development of our state in particular and humanity in general,” he stated.

The governor’s message was contained in a press release issued on Sunday, 8 March, by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma.

Otti described it as always a “thing of joy” to celebrate women and noted that their appointments into key positions in his administration demonstrate recognition of their importance and the value they add to governance. He expressed satisfaction that women in his government have continued to justify the confidence reposed in them.

He urged women in Abia to use this year’s celebration as an opportunity to renew their vigour and expand their horizons of excellence for the collective good.

The governor assured that women would remain a critical and integral part of his administration, pledging continued support to enable them to thrive.

“Governor Otti, on behalf of the First Lady, Lady Priscilla Chidinma Otti and the Government and people of Abia State, felicitates with Abia women and prays that God continues to uphold and inspire them to achieve greater excellence even as they celebrate this special day,” the statement added.

Otu: Women are pillars of growth

In Cross River, Governor Otu described women as the pillars of the state’s social harmony and economic growth.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, he lauded their resilience, enterprise and dedication.

“Today, as the world marks International Women’s Day, I celebrate the remarkable women of Cross River State whose resilience, enterprise and dedication continue to shape the progress of our dear state,” Otu said.

“Across our farms, markets, schools and institutions, Cross River women remain pillars of our social harmony and economic growth. Their courage, creativity and hard work inspire our collective advancement.”

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding opportunities for women in agriculture, entrepreneurship, education, technology and other emerging sectors.

“Empowering women is not only a social responsibility, but it is also a pathway to sustainable prosperity. I salute every Cross River woman for your strength and invaluable contributions. Together, we will continue to build a stronger and more inclusive Cross River,” he added.

The messages from both governors underscore the importance of women’s empowerment as a catalyst for inclusive development and sustainable growth.
