Rear Admiral Katagum reportedly passed away at a hospital in Egypt, where he had travelled for a follow-up medical evaluation after undergoing surgery in September last year.
Distinguished Career
Before his recent appointment as Chief of Operations by the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abass, Rear Admiral Katagum had served in several strategic positions within the Nigerian Armed Forces.
He was formerly Director of Naval Intelligence and at one time served as Deputy Defence Adviser in Paris, France. He also held key roles at Defence Headquarters prior to his latest posting.
Armed Forces in Mourning
News of his death has cast a pall of grief across the Armed Forces. Colleagues described him as a symbol of courage, discipline and dedication to national service.
Senior officers expressed profound sorrow over the loss, noting that his contributions to naval operations and national security would leave a lasting legacy within the Nigerian Navy.
