In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, the governor described the loss of 15 lives in the crash as “painful and devastating.”
Governor Otti lamented that the accident occurred outside Abia State, making it impossible for the state government to provide immediate emergency assistance at the scene.
The statement read:
“After gathering reliable information concerning the accident, Governor Otti earlier today directed the Honourable Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection to immediately reach out to the families of the deceased and the survivors with a view to offering the necessary support that may be required by the affected families.”
The governor also urged motorists to strictly adhere to road safety regulations.
“Governor Otti calls on drivers to always observe road safety rules and desist from overspeeding or driving against traffic in order to reduce the carnage on our roads.”
On behalf of the government and people of Abia State, he extended condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased and prayed for the peaceful repose of their souls.
Governor Otti assured that the state government would stand by the affected families during this difficult period.
