Governor Alex Otti has expressed willingness to work with fellow South-East governors to upgrade the Nigerian Law School, Enugu Campus, following concerns over deteriorating infrastructure.
The governor made this known during a meeting of the South East Law Development Initiative held at the Government House in Umuahia, according to a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Njoku.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the initiative and Chairman of the Council of Legal Education, Emeka Ngige, had raised concerns about the poor state of facilities at the Enugu campus and called for urgent intervention.
In response, Otti urged the group to formally engage the Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum to enable a coordinated regional effort. He also requested to be copied in the communication to facilitate discussions with his counterparts.
The governor commended legal practitioners for their vital role in sustaining justice and protecting citizens’ rights, noting that the legal profession remains central to the functioning of society.
He further encouraged lawyers and other professionals to actively participate in politics, emphasizing that governance decisions impact all sectors and individuals regardless of their career paths.
Otti reiterated his administration’s commitment to education, highlighting ongoing efforts to establish a modern law faculty at Abia State University, Uturu.
Members of the initiative, in their remarks, applauded the governor’s developmental strides and pledged to support the state through pro bono legal services.
