South-East Ex-Governors Endorse Tinubu for 2027, Launch Advisory Forum

Former governors from Nigeria’s South-East zone have thrown their weight behind the re-election of Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, while also announcing the formation of a new regional body.

The decision was reached during a high-level meeting held in Enugu, where the leaders unveiled the South East Forum of Former Governors as a platform to provide non-partisan advisory support to serving governors in the region.

Speaking after the meeting, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, who convened the gathering, said the group’s endorsement of the President was based on his infrastructural achievements and inclusion of South-East indigenes in key federal appointments.

According to him, the forum also commended current governors in the region for their efforts in infrastructure development, security, and economic empowerment. He noted that federal financial support to states has contributed significantly to the progress recorded across the zone.

Umahi explained that membership of the forum is open to all former South-East governors, regardless of political affiliation, with the aim of fostering unity and contributing to regional and national development.

He disclosed that some notable figures, including Orji Uzor Kalu, Chimaroke Nnamani, Ikedi Ohakim, and Theodore Orji, are expected to participate in subsequent meetings.

Among those present at the inaugural session were Martins Elechi, Sullivan Chime, Okezie Ikpeazu, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and Chris Ngige.

The forum later paid a courtesy visit to the Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, seeking closer collaboration between former and current leaders to enhance development across the South-East.
