The Presidency has debunked claims circulating on social media that a member of the Presidential Villa kitchen staff was arrested over an alleged attempt to poison President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The viral video, which gained traction over the weekend, alleged that security operatives arrested a chef attached to the Presidential Villa following intelligence reports of suspicious activities linked to food preparation within restricted areas of the Villa.
It further claimed that a special police squad was deployed and that security around the presidential environment had been significantly tightened as a result of the alleged threat.
According to the circulating report, the supposed arrest was said to have stemmed from credible threats to the President’s safety, prompting a coordinated investigation by personnel responsible for protecting national leadership. The content also suggested that the unnamed kitchen staff was taken into custody for questioning while authorities examined evidence related to the alleged poisoning attempt.
However, reacting to the development, the Presidency described the claims as entirely false.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, dismissed the video as “fake news,” stressing that no such incident occurred and that the story was fabricated.
He urged members of the public to disregard the report and rely only on official communication channels for verified information, warning against the spread of unsubstantiated content capable of causing unnecessary panic.
