Tinubu made the remarks at the 10th anniversary memorial lecture of late lawyer and political activist, Olatunji Akintunde Braithwaite, held in Abuja.
Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, the President highlighted several government initiatives aimed at supporting vulnerable Nigerians, students, farmers and small businesses.
According to him, the administration’s programmes include conditional cash transfers for the poorest citizens, rural development projects to support farmers, student loan schemes, healthcare support for pregnant women and financial assistance for small and medium-scale enterprises.
Tinubu also praised the late Braithwaite for his role in advocating true federalism, political restructuring and democratic accountability in Nigeria.
He noted that Braithwaite consistently challenged the political establishment through activism, public discourse and participation in national debates, including the 2014 National Conference.
Former Osun State Governor, Bisi Akande, who chaired the occasion, urged political leaders to emulate Braithwaite’s values of courage, integrity and service.
Akande said leadership should be driven by principles, purpose and public trust rather than personal gain or political convenience.
Speaking at the event, Braithwaite’s daughter, Omowunmi Braithwaite, described the memorial lecture as an opportunity to reflect on her father’s legacy, ideas and contributions to Nigeria’s political development.
