Wendy Achumba: Abia Assembly Speaker Assures Family of Justice for Slain Nursing Student

The Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, has assured the family of slain nursing student, Miss Wendy Achumba, that her suspected killers will not escape justice.

Wendy, a 21-year-old student of Our Lady of Mercy Nursing School, Unuologho Obowo, Imo State, was reportedly raped and murdered at her off-campus residence.

Emeruwa gave the assurance on Monday during a visit to the family of the deceased in Aba.

The Speaker disclosed that the Abia State House of Assembly had recently raised the matter during plenary, adding that a motion was moved to encourage faster government action towards addressing the case.

He said he had personally taken interest in the matter and assured the family that the Assembly and the state government remained committed to ensuring justice is served.

Emeruwa stated that all necessary steps would be taken to support efforts aimed at bringing the perpetrators to justice.

Speaking on behalf of the bereaved family, Rev. T. O. Ikpemmadu of the United Evangelical Church described Wendy’s death as a painful loss.

He, however, appreciated the Speaker and the Abia State Government for their intervention and commitment towards seeking justice for the deceased.
