Stakeholders from Abia North, under the Alliance for Good Governance, have announced plans to mobilise support for Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The group made its position known at a meeting held on Saturday at the Isieke Civic Centre, Ugwueke, in Bende Local Government Area of the state.

Presenting the communique issued after the meeting, the Alliance’s Secretary and spokesperson, Prof. Mkpa Mkpa, said the stakeholders were interested in sustaining what they described as the governance model introduced by the Otti administration. �

Mkpa said the group believed the approach should continue beyond 2031, with future administrations building on the framework established by the current government.

The stakeholders also resolved to work towards Otti’s second-term bid through voter education and grassroots mobilisation. Particular attention, they said, would be given to residents in rural communities and people with limited literacy.

The group further called on young people not to be influenced by electoral inducements or pressure from political opponents.

Mkpa said the Alliance considered itself non-partisan and described its members as elders of Abia North interested in what they regard as good governance in the state.

He also urged the governor to continue with his programmes during the remainder of his first term and, if re-elected, into his second term. �

Former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr Uchechukwu Ogah, said members of the group had political structures that would be deployed for grassroots engagement and voter education ahead of the election.

Renowned economist and former Group Managing Director of FBN Holdings, Urum Kalu Eke, also expressed support for Otti’s administration, saying the governor’s public-sector performance had made professionals proud.

The convener of the Alliance, Ebueme Ezikpe, said the platform was not a political party and that none of its members was a government contractor.

He explained that the group was established to bring together opinion leaders and influential members of the community to discuss and influence the direction of governance in Abia State.

The meeting was hosted by Johnson Chukwu, who also said the platform was intended to promote the institutionalisation of what the stakeholders described as good governance across the state. �

The gathering formed part of the Alliance’s activities ahead of the 2027 elections, with the group maintaining that its interest extends beyond the immediate election to the continuation of its preferred governance approach after 2031.
