The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man, Ugochukwu Precious, over alleged violent criminal activities and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Precious, who resides in Umuohia, Ogbor Hill, Aba, was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad following a complaint involving an allegedly unpaid iPhone 17 Pro Max.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi.

Chinaka said the command received the complaint on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, alleging that Precious obtained the phone through a payment-on-delivery arrangement in April 2026 but failed to pay for it.

According to the police, the dispute subsequently escalated, with the suspect allegedly threatening the seller and engaging thugs to intimidate the individual.

Following actionable intelligence, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad arrested the suspect and commenced further investigation into the allegations.

The police said a pump-action shotgun was recovered from Precious on Wednesday, September 23, a day after his arrest.

The command said investigations were continuing, while efforts were being made to apprehend other suspected members of the alleged gang who remain at large.

Precious is expected to be charged to court after the completion of the investigation, the police said.

The Commissioner of Police urged residents to obey the law and assist security agencies by providing timely and useful information that could help prevent and tackle criminal activities in the state.
