President Bola Tinubu has rescheduled the start of his planned diplomatic tour to France, Kenya, and Rwanda, with the trip now set to begin on Sunday instead of Saturday.
The development was confirmed on Saturday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, through a post on his official X account.
“President Tinubu has rescheduled his three-nation trip to begin on Sunday, rather than Saturday as previously indicated,” Onanuga stated.
No official reason was provided for the sudden adjustment to the President’s travel itinerary.
Tinubu was originally expected to depart Abuja on Saturday for official engagements in France, Kenya, and Rwanda as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic and economic partnerships.
According to an earlier statement issued by Onanuga, the President’s first stop will be France before proceeding to Nairobi, Kenya, where he is expected to participate in the Africa-France Summit.
The summit, scheduled for May 11 and 12, will be co-chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron and Kenyan President William Ruto, with discussions expected to centre on energy transition, climate action, and digital transformation across Africa.
The Presidency noted that Tinubu’s attendance would reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to deeper cooperation with African countries and France.
Following the Kenya engagement, the President is expected to travel to Kigali, Rwanda, for the Africa CEO Forum slated for May 14 and 15.
The forum, organised in collaboration with the International Finance Corporation, will bring together political leaders, investors, and business executives to deliberate on economic growth and investment opportunities on the continent.
The Presidency also stated that Tinubu would use both events to highlight ongoing economic reforms by his administration aimed at attracting investment and boosting national development.
He is expected to hold meetings with global and African business leaders during the trip and will be accompanied by some ministers and senior government officials.
The President is scheduled to return to Nigeria after concluding his engagements in Rwanda.
