Obi, Kwankwaso Officially Join Nigeria Democratic Congress

Former Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, and ex-Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, have officially joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The two prominent politicians were received into the party on Sunday at its national secretariat in Abuja.

Obi had earlier announced his exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while Kwankwaso had signalled ongoing consultations with the NDC before the formal alignment.

At the event, NDC National Chairman, Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, presented party membership cards to both Obi and Kwankwaso, marking their official entry into the party.

Speaking after joining the platform, Kwankwaso said their discussions with NDC stakeholders revealed a strong alignment in ideology and political vision.

He noted that both sides agreed on key national issues and urged Nigerians to take advantage of the ongoing party registration process ahead of the deadline.

Also addressing party members, Obi called for unity and discipline within the new platform, warning against internal legal disputes.

He stressed that the focus of the party should be national rebuilding rather than court battles.

“Let there be no litigation. Party members, please don’t go to court. We are not lawyers. We don’t want to spend our time on litigation,” Obi said.

He added that the NDC was committed to forming a government focused on restoring stability and improving the living conditions of Nigerians.

“This party would form the government that will rebuild Nigeria. Government that will ensure that Nigerians in Nigeria are living with no fear,” he said.

The development marks a significant shift in the country’s opposition landscape, with both political figures now aligning under the NDC platform ahead of future elections.
