Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre (DIGC), Dr. Paul Enenche, has expressed concern over what he described as the growing tendency of some Nigerians to treat critical national issues as entertainment.
Speaking during the church’s midweek service in Abuja on Wednesday, the cleric questioned why individuals would willingly participate in online giveaways allegedly organized by criminal elements.
His comments followed reports that several social media users recently flooded an account linked to a suspected bandit, submitting their bank details and requesting financial assistance.
The incident gained further attention after a young man appeared in a viral video claiming that a suspected bandit initially promised him N100,000 but later demanded N100 million from him.
While leading prayers for the nation during the service, Enenche lamented what he called the irresponsible attitude of some citizens, arguing that many people now make light of issues with serious consequences.
“I heard that people are now appealing to bandits to send them money. How can anyone knowingly collect money linked to the suffering and bloodshed of innocent people?” he asked.
According to the pastor, such actions contribute to a culture where grave matters are no longer treated with the seriousness they deserve.
He further suggested that the tendency to turn major national concerns into jokes may be one reason leaders often feel little pressure to act responsibly.
“I believe those in leadership know that regardless of what happens, many people will eventually turn it into a joke,” he said.
Enenche also referenced public institutions, arguing that there are often no consequences when actions that should attract public scrutiny occur.
“If the electoral commission announces whatever it chooses, there is no consequence. If justice is undermined in the judiciary, nothing happens,” he added.
