President Bola Tinubu has appointed Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs after the resignation of Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue his political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.
Before her latest appointment, Odumegwu-Ojukwu served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
The development was announced in a statement issued by the President’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, who also disclosed that Tinubu nominated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as the new Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, pending Senate confirmation.
According to the statement, Enikanolaiye, who hails from Kogi State, previously served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations.
The Presidency described him as an experienced diplomat and accomplished public servant with more than 30 years of service in Nigeria’s foreign service.
He has held several strategic diplomatic positions, including serving as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while also representing Nigeria in missions located in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi.
Tinubu said the appointments form part of his administration’s broader efforts to strengthen and reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy framework for improved efficiency, deeper international engagement, and stronger global partnerships.
The President also urged the new appointees to remain committed to advancing Nigeria’s national interests, promoting economic diplomacy, strengthening regional stability, and protecting the welfare of Nigerians both at home and abroad.
“President Tinubu congratulates the appointees and urges them to work diligently to promote Nigeria’s national interest, advance economic diplomacy, foster regional stability, and safeguard the welfare of Nigerians at home and abroad,” the statement read.
