Tinubu Did Not Back Adeleke’s Re-election Bid — Osun APC Lawmakers

Lawmakers of the All Progressives Congress (APC) representing Osun State in the National Assembly have dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu has endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke for re-election ahead of the August 15 governorship poll.

The five lawmakers, operating under the G-5 group, said there was no truth to the speculation and urged the public to disregard such reports.

In a statement issued in Osogbo on Sunday, the lawmakers clarified that the President had never assured Adeleke of support at any point.

The signatories to the statement include Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Industries; Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment; Oluwole Oke, Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs; Bimbo Ajilesoro, Chairman of the House Committee on NASENI; and Sanya Omirin, Chairman of the House Committee on Nigeria–Thailand Parliamentary Friendship Group.

They rejected claims that Tinubu held a political meeting with Adeleke or reached any agreement with him regarding the election, describing such reports as misleading. According to them, the only interaction between the President and Adeleke’s family was a Sallah visit in Lagos last year.

The lawmakers stated that during their own meetings with the President, he never indicated any interest in supporting Adeleke. Instead, they said Tinubu expressed confidence in the APC’s chances in Osun, especially with their involvement in the party.

They also questioned the logic behind the alleged endorsement, pointing out that the APC already has a candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, contesting the election.

The group further criticised what it described as attempts to mislead the public, urging party members and supporters not to believe claims of endorsement being circulated by political opponents.

They reaffirmed their support for Oyebamiji and called on voters in the state to back the APC in the upcoming election.

The lawmakers also assured President Tinubu of their commitment to strengthening the party’s performance in Osun, expressing confidence in delivering stronger electoral support in future elections.

It was noted that the five lawmakers recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC, citing internal challenges within their former party.
