Group Defends Tinubu’s Security Record, Backs Second-Term Bid

A political pressure group, the Renewed Hope Grassroots Initiatives, has expressed support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, calling on Nigerians to back what it described as a continuity mandate to sustain ongoing reforms.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Sunday, the group’s Director-General, Jaafaru Sa’ad, said the administration has recorded progress despite inheriting deep-rooted economic and security challenges.

According to him, it is unfair to blame President Tinubu for the current security situation in the country.

“Insecurity did not start with President Bola Tinubu. He inherited it from the four past Presidents, and he is dealing with it. Trying to blame President Tinubu for the security challenges is disingenuous,” Sa’ad said.

He added that reforms within the security and intelligence sectors require time before yielding visible results.

“The President is redesigning the intelligence and security architecture he inherited, and these things do not materialise overnight,” he said.

Sa’ad also addressed ongoing national debates around governance structure, particularly proposals advocating a single four-year presidential term, an idea previously supported by Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi as part of broader governance reforms.

However, Sa’ad argued that such a proposal could destabilise Nigeria’s political system and disrupt the country’s informal power rotation arrangement.

“In the spirit of equity, fairness and national unity, it becomes just and equitable for President Tinubu to be allowed the chance to complete his eight-year tenure,” he said.

He warned that a single-term presidency could hinder meaningful policy implementation.

“A single term of four years does not grant enough time to effect any substantive change and is capable of truncating the peaceful rotational
