Turkey: Osimhen’s Galatasaray delay title celebration after 4-1 loss to Samsunspor

Victor Osimhen’s hopes of winning back-to-back Turkish Süper Lig titles with Galatasaray were temporarily put on hold following a disappointing 4-1 defeat to Samsunspor on Saturday.

Galatasaray entered the encounter needing victory to officially clinch the league title, but their celebrations were delayed after a poor defensive display allowed the hosts to stage a dominant comeback.

The visitors started brightly and took the lead in the ninth minute through Yunus Akgün, raising hopes of an early title confirmation for the Yellow-Reds.

However, Samsunspor quickly responded and took control of the match, with Marius Mouandilmadji and Cherif Ndiaye both scoring braces to hand Galatasaray a crushing defeat.

Despite the setback, Galatasaray remain top of the table with 74 points, maintaining a four-point advantage over closest rivals Fenerbahçe with two matches remaining in the season.

Osimhen and his teammates now have another opportunity to secure the championship when they host Antalyaspor next weekend. A victory in that fixture would confirm Galatasaray as Turkish champions for a record 26th league title.
