The Abia State Government has alleged that certain political actors are plotting to sponsor protests designed to create unrest and undermine the administration of Alex Otti.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, disclosed that intelligence reports suggest that some individuals are mobilising miscreants from Aba and neighbouring states to stage a protest.
According to the statement, the protest is reportedly being organised under the slogan “Tinubu Dey Work, Otti Dey Chop,” which the government described as a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation.
The government said the planned action is intended to create a false narrative that ongoing projects executed by the state government are being funded by the Federal Government. It maintained that it had previously clarified that federal reimbursements for such projects had already been discontinued.
Ekeoma further warned that the protest could be a strategy to provoke confrontation between demonstrators and security agencies, particularly the State Task Force operating in Aba. Such clashes, he noted, could escalate into violence, potentially resulting in loss of lives and a breakdown of law and order.
The government also linked the alleged plot to broader efforts to destabilise the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“While we remain committed to democratic principles and the tolerance of opposition, we will not hesitate to take decisive action against any individual or group that attempts to endanger public safety under the guise of political expression,” the statement said.
It urged parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against participating in politically motivated protests that could put their safety at risk.
Reaffirming its commitment to peace and stability, the Abia State Government assured residents that it would continue to maintain a secure environment where political activities can be conducted freely without fear or intimidation.
