Accord Party Endorses Otti for Second Term, Signals Strategic Alliance in Abia

The National Chairman of the Accord Party, Prof. Christopher Imumolen, has publicly endorsed Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, for a second term in office, promising the party’s full backing ahead of the 2027 elections.

Imumolen made this known on Wednesday during a private courtesy visit to the governor at his country home in Nvosi, alongside members of the party’s National Working Committee. He praised Otti’s performance in office, describing it as impressive and worthy of continued support.

According to him, development should rise above political affiliations, stressing that opposition parties have a responsibility not only to criticise but also to acknowledge effective leadership where it exists.

He said the visit was both to commend the governor’s efforts and to affirm the party’s readiness to stand with him as the next election approaches. Imumolen added that the level of progress recorded under Otti’s leadership justifies the party’s decision to support his re-election bid and ensure continuity beyond 2027.

He further assured that the Accord Party in Abia State would align with the governor’s leadership and direction in its political activities.

Also speaking, the party’s National Secretary, Malam Mukhtar Djungo, assured Governor Otti that the Accord Party would not present any governorship candidate in Abia State during the 2027 election. He noted that the party’s national leadership has instructed its state chapter to collaborate with the Labour Party in the interest of the people of Abia State, urging that the current developmental strides be sustained.

In her remarks, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, who joined the meeting virtually alongside the party’s National Secretary, Iheanacho Obioma, commended the Accord Party for its stance. She noted that it is uncommon for opposition parties in Nigeria to openly acknowledge good governance by a ruling party.

Usman described the development as refreshing, pointing out that opposition politics should not be limited to criticism but should also recognise progress when it occurs. She expressed appreciation for the Accord Party’s decision not to field a candidate, saying it reflects a commitment to the state’s development and stability.

Responding, Governor Otti thanked the Accord Party leadership for their support and understanding of the true purpose of politics, which he said centres on the welfare and security of the people.

He reaffirmed his willingness to work closely with the party at both the state and national levels, emphasising that collaboration can drive greater progress. Otti also highlighted the importance of honesty in politics, noting that acknowledging what works should not be seen as a weakness.

The governor maintained that leadership should always prioritise the well-being and safety of citizens, adding that he remains open to any arrangement that would best serve the people. He concluded by expressing appreciation for the party’s endorsement and reiterating his commitment to continued cooperation.
