Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has called on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to unite and present a strong candidate ahead of future elections, insisting that political power will not be handed over by the current administration.
Amaechi made the remarks on Tuesday during the party’s national convention held in Abuja.
He criticised the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, particularly over the rising insecurity across the country, which he said has led to loss of lives, displacement, and widespread fear among citizens.
The former minister urged members of the ADC to work together and build a united front capable of challenging the ruling government.
According to him, the party must focus on selecting a credible and competitive candidate if it hopes to make meaningful political gains.
“ADC must decide on a viable candidate. President Tinubu will not give us power,” he said, stressing the need for strategic planning and unity within the party.
Amaechi also questioned actions he described as limiting citizens’ constitutional rights, including restrictions on public gatherings, which he said contradict democratic principles.
He further expressed concern over governance standards, accusing some public officials of prioritising personal gain over national interest.
His comments add to ongoing political discussions as opposition figures continue to mobilise and position themselves ahead of future electoral contests.
