The Abia State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has clarified that it is not organising any ward, local government, or state congresses slated to take place from April 7 to 14, 2026.
The party made this known in a communication addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), party members, and stakeholders across all levels, including ward, local government, and state executives.
In a statement signed by the State Chairman, Mr. Don Norman Obinna, the party referenced a recent Appeal Court ruling which upheld the status quo ante bellum, a decision that reportedly led INEC to remove the David Mark-led National Working Committee from its official website.
Obinna further explained that, in compliance with the court’s directive, INEC had instructed ADC state officers not to supervise any purported state congresses or national convention linked to the ongoing dispute.
He emphasized that the tenure of the current ward, local government, and state executives in Abia remains valid and unaffected.
“Therefore, party members, leaders, and stakeholders are urged to remain calm, stay positive, and promote the constructive message of the ADC while refraining from actions that could disrupt peace in their respective areas,” he said.
The chairman assured members that efforts were underway to reposition the party and restore normalcy, adding that updates would be communicated as developments unfold.
