The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has called on residents to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, warning that supporting the party would amount to endorsing hardship and poor governance.
Speaking at a press conference in Umuahia, Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee in the state, Ikpegbu Emeka-Yellow, said the APC does not represent the kind of leadership Abia needs.
“A vote for the APC is a vote for hardship, stagnation, and regression. We must not bring into our state the failures seen at the federal level,” he said.
Emeka-Yellow alleged that many of those now championing the APC in Abia were previously involved in governance that did not deliver meaningful development. He said attempts by such individuals to reposition themselves under a new platform should not mislead voters.
“They are trying to present a new image, but the people are aware of their track records. Abians must remain alert,” he added.
He stressed that the state requires leadership that is forward-thinking, accountable, and focused on development, rather than what he described as recycled political actors driven by personal interests.
According to him, Abia has made progress and should not reverse its gains.
“We have moved forward and will not go backwards,” he said.
The PDP also called on political stakeholders across party lines to prioritise the state’s future and work together to protect democratic values, describing the 2027 elections as crucial for both Abia and the country.
In addition, the party extended an invitation to other opposition groups in the state to collaborate in resisting what it described as attempts by the APC to dominate the political space through undemocratic means.
Emeka-Yellow urged PDP members to remain united and supportive of the party’s leadership under the National Working Committee, led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, assuring that the party is preparing to present credible candidates in the elections.
Beyond Abia, the party also called on Nigerians to reject the APC at the national level, accusing the ruling party of failing to address key issues affecting citizens.
He cited rising inflation, unemployment, business closures, and worsening insecurity as major concerns, alleging that the country has experienced economic decline and weakened institutions in recent years.
Emeka-Yellow further warned against any attempt to undermine democratic processes, stressing the need for vigilance among citizens.
He urged Abians to remain politically aware and ensure that the state’s leadership remains aligned with its development goals.
